GSM/GPRS modules give a project access to the cellular network for SMS alerts, voice calls, and mobile data - useful anywhere WiFi coverage isn't available, such as remote monitoring stations, vehicle trackers, and field equipment. They're controlled over a simple serial AT-command interface and need an active SIM card to work.
