L293D Motor Driver/Servo Shield for Arduino
The L293D Motor Driver/Servo Shield is a powerful and versatile motor control shield designed for Arduino-compatible boards. It can drive up to 4 DC motors, 2 stepper motors, and 2 hobby servos, making it ideal for robotics and automation projects.
At the heart of the shield are two L293D H-Bridge motor driver ICs, capable of delivering up to 0.6A per channel (1.2A peak) with protection features like thermal shutdown and internal diodes. The shield also includes a 74HC595 shift register, which allows control of multiple motors using only a few Arduino pins.
The servo connections use Arduino’s dedicated Pin 9 and Pin 10, allowing high-resolution control. Motors can be powered either directly through the Arduino’s DC jack or via a separate EXT_PWR terminal block for higher voltages or isolated power sources. A power jumper allows easy switching between power modes.
This shield is also supported by the AFMotor and AccelStepper Arduino libraries, simplifying coding and adding support for advanced motion control like acceleration and deceleration.
